Starting sketch of Nick Offerman. Big brush keeping the strokes fairly loose.
I moved to a more detailed brush and blocked in the lights and darks.
I continue to add detail with a smaller more transparent brush.
WhWhen I add color I usually fill a layer with a flesh tone and set the layer to multiply.
Here I have added different colors in the face for differentiation. I add greens in the forehead, reds in the nose, eyes and cheeks and blues in the chin and neck area.
To enhance the color I added a yellow gradient from right to left on the face and changed the layer mode.
